Child & Youth Therapy
Therapy for Children age 3 to 12
We offer play therapy for children in the Timmins area. Play therapy is for kids ages 3 to 12 and is a therapeutic approach used to support kids in freely expressing their thoughts and emotions. Therapeutic play can be used to help children with social, emotional and academic difficulties, behavioural issues, and disorders such as:
- depression and sadness
- learning disabilities
- grief & loss
- emotional abuse and neglect
- physical abuse
- sexual abuse
Play therapy can be beneficial for children who have experienced or witnessed stressful events, major life changes such as serious illness, adoption, domestic violence, divorce, trauma, or loss of a close family member.
Play therapy incorporates free play, directive play, role play, drawing and storytelling. Some tools include sandbox with miniature figurines, art materials, dolls, puppets, indoor sports equipment, and Play-Doh to support with emotional expression.
Parents seek out the support of therapy for many reasons.
We work with children and youth ages 3 to 12 and their parents. Children are tiny humans with BIG emotions. Learning how to cope with and identify these emotions is difficult for tiny brains. That’s why we also work with the parent or caregiver to give them the tools to support their child through the storm of emotions using Emotion Coaching. Emotion Coaching can help children with coping with anxiety, sadness, anger & aggression, and trauma.
